Slow Stitching Sunday

This weekend I’m working on hand-quilting my batik granny squares quilt. You can see the finished quilt top here. Yesterday I pieced a backing, adding a stripe of the remaining squares across the top of the back.

The I laid out the quilt and basted it and started the quilting.

I decided to use wool batting after all and so far I’m enjoying how it quilts and has more loft. I’ll share more about my comparison to white cotton batting later this week.

  1. I love that photo of your quilt in the hoop!
I was wondering about the wool batting for hand quilting, so I’ll look forward to reading about your experience with it. Thanks for linking up to Slow Sunday Stitching!

  2. Beautiful hand quilting! I love wool alot, it has more loft, lighter and doesn’t crease like cotton. But I still use cotton when I want more drape. Living in the south it nice to have cotton quilts as they are not quite as warm, also. I am trying the poly down next on a baltimore album, so glad there are so many choices.

  3. Enjoy the hand quilting. I always did.
