First Tomato!

On Saturday I picked the first tomato! It was a sungold cherry, from one of the plants that was transplanted with protection in early May.

Also this week, the first of the Fava Beans

And lots of chamomile.

See other gardeners’ harvests at Daphne’s Dandelions.

Congrats on your first tomato. I think I’ll be getting one this week just in time before Sarah leaves. She remarked last night that she’ll miss all our tomato harvests but I think I’ll still have some in mid-August when she returns.

  2. It all looks so summery!

First of any harvest is always the best, congrats on you sun gold. I have no luck growing fava beans, will try again next year.

Nice harvest. I had my first tomato today too and it was a sungold as well :)

Gorgeous tomato, what do you do with fava beans? I’ve never tried to grow or eat them actually.

      Jenny,
We grilled ours. They have to be shelled twice, the outer pod and then a layer around each bean, so when they’re grilled it’s finger food, popping them out of the pod and then out of the layer. But they are yummy!

mmmm grilled favas, that sounds kind of fun, bet my grandkids would like that. I really need to remember to order some seed! Pretty first tomato!

That’s a fine looking tomato. May there be many more to come!

  8. I ordered two types of Fava beans for fall planting. I have never eaten or cooked them either, but I really am excited about them due to their beautiful flowers.
