Harvest Monday 10/24/11

This week was a slow week for harvests. There is enough to go out and pick a few things for dinner but the large harvests are long gone. The two major things remaining in the garden are Brussels sprouts and leeks.

We ate two Asian inspired soups this week and so picked a variety of tatsoi, cabbage, bok choy, and other greens along with a few broccoli florets twice.

Caramelized leeks went into one of the soups.

I belatedly harvested some mint for my tea this winter. It won’t last long, I harvested much more last year.

I also picked parsley to freeze.

A few more strands of saffron were harvested along with a few raspberries but those photos were too blurry to use.

Eggs this week: 17

Harvest this week: 1.8 lbs

    I think you Mom mentioned you have already had a frost. Believe it or not I am still waiting for one here but the garden is done anyway except the brussel sprouts that I don’t think will every get big enough to bother with. I am quite interested in your harvest of saffron. Have never heard of growing it.

    I too am making alot of Asian inspired soups at the moment. What do you put in yours?

    Our garden is done with the large summer crop items as well. Mostly greens, some root crops, and the leeks etc too. I like those as fresh harvests though to supplement the items we have in storage, frozen, or canned for meal preparation.

    Your asian inspired soups sound delicious. I need to switch back into soup making mode.
